Privacy Policy

MovieMood helps you find movies for your mood. We collect as little personal data as we can, never sell it, and don't use advertising trackers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who is responsible
MovieMood is run by Avedis (France), the “data controller”. Questions or requests: info@abakelianavedis.com.
What we collect
- Account details (only if you sign up): your email address and, if you use “Continue with Google”, the name and email Google shares with us. Passwords are stored by our authentication provider in hashed form — we never see them.
- Your lists and ratings: movies you save, mark as watched or rate. Without an account they stay in your browser only; with an account they're stored with it so they sync across your devices.
- “Describe your mood” text: what you type, plus a short summary of your movie taste (favourite genres, liked and disliked titles), is sent to our AI provider to pick films. It isn't linked to your name or email.
- Technical data: your IP address is used briefly in memory to prevent abuse (rate limiting) and may appear in our host's standard server logs.
- Browser storage: we store your watchlist, ratings, chosen streaming country and 18+ confirmation in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. These are functional, not tracking, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- To provide your account, watchlist, ratings and personalised picks — performance of our agreement with you.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse — our legitimate interest.
- To answer your messages — our legitimate interest, or your request.
Services we rely on
These providers process data on our behalf or when you use their features:
- Supabase — sign-in and storage of account data (watchlist and ratings).
- Google — only if you choose “Continue with Google”.
- Anthropic (Claude) — AI movie picks for “Describe your mood”.
- Hostinger — hosting of this website.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) and JustWatch — movie information, images and streaming availability. We don't send them your personal data.
- YouTube — trailers play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com). When you press play, YouTube may set cookies and process data under Google's privacy policy.
Some of these providers are based outside the EU (for example in the United States). Where data leaves the EU, it is protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, watchlist and ratings permanently. AI requests are not stored by us beyond a short cache (about an hour) used to avoid repeat costs.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw any consent. You can delete your account yourself on the account page. For anything else, email info@abakelianavedis.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Age
MovieMood is not intended for children under 16, who should not create an account. Some moods contain films with mature themes and ask you to confirm you are 18 or older.
Affiliate links and paid features
Some “where to watch” links may be affiliate links: if you rent, buy or subscribe through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. If we introduce paid features, payments will be handled by a dedicated payment provider; we will not store your card details.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll let account holders know.
